NWA-TNA Weekly PPV #43 (April 30, 2003)

Jarrett is shown arriving flanked by security earlier in the day.

Tonight, Raven finally gets his shot at Jarrett and the NWA Title, plus Red challenges Kash for the X Division Title.

Disciples of the New Church (w/ Father James Mitchell) vs Harris Brothers vs Justin Credible & Perry Saturn vs America's Most Wanted
Brian Lee and Saturn start the match with a quick exchange, Saturn takes control with a series of Germans, then an armbar until Slash makes the save. Credible tags in, comes off the ropes, avoids a chokeslam, then for whatever reason taunts the crowd allowing Lee to tag in one of the twins who comes in with a clothesline. Knees and a big boot, then takes Credible to the AMW corner where Storm makes a blind tag. Twin is sent off the ropes into a double back elbow, then Storm clotheslines Credible.
Credible retreats and Slash tags in, we get a slugfest, then Storm sent off the ropes, avoids a back drop, sends Slash face first in the corner and he headbutts Storm. Storm avoids a hip toss, comes off the ropes, slips through the legs and hits a dropkick. Storm covers but breaks it up himself and gets a shot in on Lee. Slash goes for the spinning crucifix but Harris saves with a spear. Lee comes in with a big boot, then Harris sent off the ropes into a big boot, before tossing Harris to the floor.
One of the twins whips Harris into the other who throws a chair at his head, then throws him into the guard rail before sending him back in. Ron in the ring with a back suplex, then a t-bon suplex. Saturn tags in and lays into Harris, then gets some shots in on the Church. Saturn with a superkick, covers but the ref is dealing with Lee. Inside cradle by Harris for two, who runs into a clothelsine, then Saturn hits an elbow, covers and Storm breaks it.
Credible back in with a chop and a cover for two. Saturn back in with a right and a headbutt before applying some kind of surfboard until Slash saves it. Saturn with a suplex into another surfboard, Credible has a small cut above his eye for some reason. Harris fights his way out, comes off the ropes right into an elbow. Credible in again Harris catches a superkick and hits a DDT.
Storm gets the hot tag and in comes Saturn, Storm gets him and Slash who runs in with rights. Saturn sent off the ropes into a back elbow. Lee comes in and gets decked, so does one of the twins who gets a dropkick. Storm sent off the ropes and hits a bulldog on Saturn for two. Saturn catches a superkick, but eats a back kick and an enziguri, Storm covers and Slash saves it. Twins hit the H Bomb on Slash, covers and Storm saves it. One twin sent off the ropes into a double dropkick from AMW, then AMW give Credible a Hart Attack, Storm covers but Saturn saves it. Church and the Twins fight toward the back. Storm hits an inverted tornado DDT on Saturn, covers and Slash pulls the ref out of the ring. Storm is going for something on Saturn, one of the twins comes in and boots Harris into him, Saturn hits Storm with the DVD for the win. (8:09) That was a really good opener despite the messy finish.

Goldy is in the SEX locker room and she gives Glen credit for what he's done with SEX, how he took it by the balls, but brings up a good point how Raven went to Team Extreme instead of SEX for help last week, calling it a blemish on Glen's record. He says he's not above slapping a woman that deserves it. He says Raven turned his back on their money, power and influence, to join up with the degenerates, low-lifes, and drug addicts from the Philly bingo hall, but he's fine with it as long as Raven gets it approved by him. He says he's looking for Raven and wants the man to look him in the eye and tell him he thought Team Extreme was the better option. He says the NWA Title is coming to SEX one way or another. Goldy tries to get details but he won't say anything more.

Over to commentary to talk about tonight's title matches, and apparently we'll hear from several people with their thoughts on the main event throughout the show.

Goldy is with Lynn backstage who says everyone who wants to make a point seems to do it as his expense, the latest being Truth. He says he's been everyone's doormat and used by everyone to get fame and glory, from Truth, to Konnan to Styles. He says it ends tonight, he says everyone's told him it does him no good to be the good guy, and he actually agrees with them. He's tired of going out and busting his ass for 20 min and getting nothing, and says the everyone will see a brand new Jerry Lynn.

Christopher Daniels vs Jerry Lynn (NWA World Tag Team Champion)
Pre-Match: Daniels gets a mic and mocks the "new" Lynn, then says he and Red have fooled everyone into thinking they're an X Division dream team. He says XXX is the X Division dream team. As ignorant as the fans are he claims they want to see all three members of XXX wrestle, so he suggests Lynn and Red defend the tag titles against all three of them next week if Daniels wins. Lynn is down, but counteroffers that if he wins, then they defend against only one member of XXX of their choosing.
Lynn doesn't wait for an answer and drops Daniels with a right, then we get a lockup, Daniels shoved to the mat. Then a quick exchange that ends with a standoff and frustration from Daniels. Daniels with a cheap shot to start another exchange that ends with Daniels getting thrown over the top rope, he tries to skin the cat into a headscissor, but Lynn shoves him to the floor and hits a baseball slide to the back of the head, followed by a crossbody. Back in the ring, Lynn covers for two. Lynn sent to the corner, gets the boot up and comes off the middle rope with a headscissor, then a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker gets two.
Daniels takes control with a jawbreaker and a drop toe hold into the middle rope. Scoop slam and a splash by Daniels gets two. Boots in the corner from Daniels, Lynn fights out, but gets yanked to the mat by the hair before being caught with an enziguri for two. Another scoop slam by Daniels followed by a slingshot leg drop for two, then another cover and a third cover both getting near falls. Neck crank from Daniels that Lynn fights out of, comes off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, gets popped up but hits a dropkick.
Lynn spears and mounts Daniels with rights, then sends Daniels to the corner for a clothesline and a right. Bridging German gets Lynn a two count. Daniel counters an Irish whip with a back heel trip, then sets him on the top rope in the corner before an uppercut, followed by a cross-armed overhead throw to the mat for a near fall. Daniels misses the BME but lands on his feet, Lynn gets him with an uppercut and a TKO for a near fall. Lynn goes for the cradle piledriver but Daniels counters with a back drop. Daniels for some reason shoves the ref down as he goes for the Angels Wings, allowing Lynn to hit a low blow and roll Daniels up for the win. (7:09) Another excellent match.

Hype package for Team Extreme.

Speaking of, they're confronting SEX in their locker room, Goldy's in the middle of them. There's a lot of yelling but apparently Team Extreme have been calling Raven all week and haven't heard a word.

Sonny Siaki & David Young (w/ Desire) vs AJ Styles & D'Lo Brown
Pre-Match: We get a short clip of AJ's response about tonight's NWA Title match. He says it doesn't matter who wins, he's going to be champion soon.
Styles and and Siaki start the match with a quick exchange of holds and pins until Siaki tags in Young, who runs into an arm drag. AJ counters an Irish whip with a back suplex, but Young avoids a discus clothesline with a right. AJ counters an Irish whip into the ropes as D'Lo tags in, AJ catches Young with a dropkick and D'Lo comes off the top with a clothesline. Scoop slam from D'Lo, AJ tags in as D'Lo gets on the middle rope, and AJ gives him a hurricanrana onto Young, AJ covering for two. AJ sent to the corner, floats over into a rollup for two, then comes off the ropes with a swinging neckbreaker for two.
Young whipped off the ropes and hooks the top rope to avoid a dropkick before tagging in Siaki, who runs into a dropkick. Desire gets on the apron and slaps Styles, Siaki tries to come from behind but gets caught with a springboard inverted DDT for two. AJ gets distracted by Desire again allowing Young to clothesline from the apron before tagging in, Styles sent off the ropes into a powerslam for two. Siaki back in, AJ tries to fight back but he's caught with a half-nelson suplex, Siaki covers and D'Lo saves.
Young back in, AJ blocks a suplex and turns one of his own into a neckbeaker. Siaki back in, AJ tries to make the hot tag to D'Lo but Siaki knocks him off the apron. Siaki with a snap suplex and a leg drop gets two. Styles sent off the ropes into a clothesline for two. Young in again, Styles sent off the ropes but catches Young with a tilt-a-whirl DDT.
D'Lo gets the hot tag this time and in comes Siaki. D'Lo with clotheslines, then Siaki sent off the ropes into a clothesline. D'Lo sent off the ropes, avoids a back drop, then Young avoids a side slam and nails a Double A spinebuster and covers but Styles saves it, then delivers a Pele Kick to Siaki. Young gets him with some kind of side slam, then gets sent off the ropes, AJ and D'Lo hit a Sky High/neckbreaker combo, D'Lo with a pin but Siaki saves it.
Young gets clotheslined to the floor by D'Lo and AJ hits a springboard shooting star onto Young. Siaki is sent off the ropes into a spinebuster and Desire is back on the apron. Siaki accidentally knocks her off the apron, Young checks on her. Siaki tries the Siak-olypse Now on D'lo, D'Lo slips out, back drops Siaki onto AJ's shoulders to hit the Styles Clash. D'Lo comes off the top with the Lo Down to get the win. (9:18) This was another really good match, and D'Lo and Styles make for a surprisingly good team, their double team moves ruled.

We get a clip from D'Lo for his thoughts on the main event but he basically says the same thing Styles did.

We go to an interview Tenay did earlier in the day with Truth and Konnan. First Tenay brings up how Truth told Konnan they needed to talk and asks what they discussed, and what it accomplished. Truth says they accomplished a lot. He says he knew what he was getting into on his first day in the business, and with that in mind he climbed up the ladder to success, but as he did he hit multiple speed bumps. So he sat down and watched to figure out what was going on: he figures everyone forgot who he was, the first black NWA Champion. He claims he and Konnan have lots in common: Konnan climbed up the same ladder he did, says he's not scared to speak his mind.
Tenay brings up Konnan's claims that TNA wants to keep the company white, how there's no room for Latinos or "brothers" and he questions it given they have a roster that includes Red, D'Lo and Skipper. Konnan claims Tenay's pretending that racism isn't present in wrestling. He uses an example, he asks if Tenay's daughter came home with news that she was marrying a black or Latino person, and he takes advantage of Tenay's millisecond pause to prove his point. He insists that if Tenay had seen the two of them walking down the street he'd lock his car doors, while if he saw someone like Jarrett he'd invite him inside for biscuits. Konnan says there are no black or Latino owners, producers, agents or announcers. Tenay insists there are black announces in wrestling and I think makes reference to Taz? He doesn't say his name, but he says "the coach in WWE" and Konnan argues with him.
Tenay says that while TNA has given them their forum to vent, they need to now prove themselves in the ring. Konnan says they're bringing the streets to the ring and will show how they roll on their terms. He says they're not going to follow guidelines or "white boy rules" at any cost. Truth says they better watch out. They both end the interview mocking stereotypes and some stuff gets bleeped.

Suddenly some woman is getting dragged away by security from one of the dancer cages, I can't tell who this is.

Over to Raven in his candlelit room. He talks about the two factions fighting over him, and how they both want him because he's the only one who can win the NWA Title. He thinks we should reflect on Jarrett's imminent loss that he'll suffer. He says the NWA Title means more to Jarrett than just being a belt, a prized possession, he cherishes and worships it. He quotes Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" and says that when Jarrett feels the Raven Effect and looks skyward, preying for an act of god, it hurts Raven inside, but will do what he must.

Four Corners Elimination Match: Chris Sabin vs Jason Cross vs Shark Boy vs Jimmy Rave
Cross and Rave start the match with a quick exchange , then Rave misses a splash in the corner and eats a kick to the head. Rave set on the top rope, tries a tornado DDT, Cross counters but Rave hits a German. Cross with another kick to the head and tags in Sabin, who comes in with a roll up for one. Rave with a knee to the gut, then one to the face for two. Sabin counters an Irish whip as Shark Boy gets a blind tag on him, Rave gets back dropped to the floor and Shark Boy follows with a crossbody. Sabin goes for a springboard but completely misses the ropes and just barely overshoots the top rope and hits the floor, and no one's there to catch him. Cross follows with a corkscrew onto Sabin and Shark Boy. Rave gets Cross with a superkick before taking Shark Boy into the ring, Shark Boy sent to the corner, gets a boot up, goes to the middle rope to hit the floatover stunner to eliminate Rave.
Sabin tries to come off the top, he's shoved to the floor by Cross, who gets caught with a dropkick midair by Shark Boy for two. Cross counters an inverted suplex with a roll of the dice, then comes off the ropes with a somersault leg drop for two. Shark Boy counters a suplex with a small package for two, then runs into a clothesline. Brainbuster by Cross gets two. Shark Boy sent to the corner, then across the ring for a clothesline. Cross sent off the ropes, flips over the back, but caught with a hangman's neckbreaker.
Shark Boy tags in Sabin, Sain sent off the ropes, through the legs with a big boot for two. Cross sent to the corner, nails Sabin with an elbow, comes off the middle rope with a corkscrew neckbreaker. Cross tries the shooting star leg drop but Sabin avoids it. Sabin hitting the Future Shock, which looks like a standing Muscle Buster here but I sweat it's not what that move becomes in the future, and Cross is eliminated.
Shark Boy with a back kick and a facebuster for a two. Shark Boy with a crossbody off the top but Sabin rolls through, hitting a sidewinder backbreaker for two. Shark Boy avoids a suplex, tries a roll up, Sabin avoids but eats a dropkick into the corner. Shark Boy with mounted rights, Sabin walks out of the corner, Shark Boy turns it into a rollup for two. Sabin gets two on a backslide, then Shark Boy tries to stunner again but Sabin avoids it and hits a fisherman's buster for the win. (8:13) Excellent match.

Goldy is backstage with Watts who for some reason is hitting trash can lids against a wall, and he has a wheelbarrow of various weapons, I think they're in the SEX locker room. Watts brings up how Jarrett saved him last week, calls Jeff his friend and drinking partner and that they have a big match tonight and says the weapons are there because traditional wrestling isn't going to get the job done tonight. Dusty comes in to interrupt, Watts has something for him but Dusty says he's got a line of bullshit so long that everyone's stepping in it, and vows that as long as he's there Watts isn't doing anything. He says Watts still owes him something and is giving Watts one more chance to give it back. Watts makes fun of his cowboy outfit and pulls out Ric's  NWA Title, claims to be here for peace and love, and puts the title on Dusty's shoulder. Then he rambles incoherently and leaves with his weapons. Dusty calls him a crazy son of a bitch.

Rematch package of Red vs Lynn that had Truth interfering and walking off with Konnan, plus Kash's match with Trinity and SEX's strange involvement.

Goldy is with Kash backstage. For some reason she's under the impression Trinity won the X Division Title last week, even though that was clearly non-title, something he reiterates. He also reminds us that he still owns Trinity and as her boss he suspended her without pay, so she's in New York sitting at home thinking about what she did last week. He guarantees that when she returns with her ass tucked tightly between her legs that her attitude will be changed. She makes some smartass comment and he suggests making her his next project. Goldy changes subjects and asks about Red. He compares Red to a hemorrhoid that won't go away no matter how much ointment you use. He vows to do away with Red once and for all tonight

NWA X Division Championship: Amazing Red (NWA World Tag Team Champion) vs Kid Kash (c)
Shoving contest off a lock up in the corner and Red gets overpowered. Another shoving contest stumbles out to the floor and continues until Red is thrown into the guard rail. Red gets him with a kick to the head before returning to the ring for a quick exchange of moves and pin attempts. Kash sent off the ropes, sends Red to the apron, launches off the ropes and through the legs to the floor, Red returns to the ring and misses a flip dive, allowing Kash to throw a chair into his face.
Back in the ring, Kash with a flying clothesline from the top gets two. Snap swinging neckbreaker from Kash gets two. Red sent off the ropes, rolls across his back, ducks a clothesline but gets turned inside out on the next attempt for two. Cash with a Boston crab into a powerbomb gets two. Kash returns to the floor to snap at the fans before delivering a basement dropkick. Red tries mounting a comeback and eventually nails an enziguri, comes off the ropes but gets caught with a wheelbarrow suplex for two.  Red tries to mount a comeback but Kash turns a back suplex into a faceplant for two.
Camel clutch by Kash who rakes at the eyes before shoving him to the mat. Knee lift by Kash followed by chops, then Red sent off the ropes, succeeds with a sunset flip for two, and they follow with a series of pin attempts, Red eventually connecting with a cartwheel kick. Red sent off the ropes, hits the Code Red but it's only two. Kash sent to the corner, Red elevated to the apron, hits a springboard dropkick to the back to set up the 718, followed by a springboard elbow gets a near fall.
Kash sent to the corner, leaps to the middle rope, hits a springboard moonsault but hits the referee in the proceess. Red sent off the ropes, both exchange pin attempts while the referee is out. Eventually the mystery luchador takes out Kash allowing Red to get a jackknife pin. The referee takes forever to take his cue and Red eventually abandons the jackknife for a regular pin, and even when the ref does count he stops short of three and calls for the bell anyways. (9:18) That was a really good match, but again what the fuck was that finish?

The mystery lucahdor returns to take out Red too and escape through the crowd.

Hype video for Raven vs Jarrett where we here opinions from the roster. Chris Harris says Raven's made the biggest impact out of anyone, but Jarrett's been here before and will deal with Raven. Mitchell says he doesn't care who wins and calls both human debris, says any World Title match that doesn't involve the Church isn't worth his time. He thinks the fact he's been asked to pick a favorite is distasteful and offensive and would rather bob for apples in a colostomy bag. Mike Sanders complains about not getting TV time, then hypes the match as if he's Hulk Hogan. Dusty... well does his thing.

Someone woman throws Lollipop out of her dancer's cage and starts to dance herself. Lollipop goes to ringside to grab a mic and call her a $2 ho and says everyone knows no one can do it better than her before challenging this woman to a fight. So we get a catfight in the ring and eventually referees run out to pull them apart multiple times, security is here now to drag her out of the Asylum.

Hype package for Raven.

Before the main event it's time for Don's hard sell for next week. We're getting something called Anarchy in the Asylum to crown a #1 contender for the World Title. It's a Gauntlet for the Gold, but rather than battle royal rules, it's elimination by falls count anywhere. So it's basically Aztec Warfare. In that match will be former champions from NWA, WCW, WWF, ECW, Mexico, Europe and Japan.

Split screen of Jarrett and Raven preparing for their match.

Hype package for Jarrett.

NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Raven (w/ Julio Dinero & Alexis Laree) vs Jeff Jarrett (c)
A shoving contest off the lock up, Raven backed into the corner until a break is forced. Then a quick exchange and cover from Raven for two. Another quick exchange ends with Raven delivering a hip toss. Drop toe hold from Raven, then some showboating allows Jarrett to deliver rights, shoot him off the ropes and Raven retreats to the floor, only to be kicked through the ropes by Jarrett. Raven sent into the guard rail, then across the floor into the rail again. Raven's tossed back in, Julio grabs Jarrett's foot as he goes to re-enter allowing Raven to kick him in the head off the distraction. Alexis distracts the ref, Julio slides in and swings a chair at Jarrett only to hit Raven by accident. Jarrett clotheslines him out to the floor then pins Raven for two.
Jarrett with a crossbody onto Julio and Alexis, then Raven with one on Jarrett. Jarrett sent into the steps with a drop toe hold and Raven's been busted open from the chair shot. Julio and Alexis have set up a table, Jarrett's bleeding too as Raven lays him on the table, goes up top, but Jarrett returns to the ring, only to take a sledge to the back for two. Jarrett sent to the corner, Raven off the ropes with a clothesline, then a knee lift. Raven sets a chair up in the ring, then sends Jarrett into it with a drop toe hold for two. Raven with a knee to the back from the middle rope for two.
Chinlock by Raven. Jarrett fights back to his feet, comes off the ropes into a knee to the gut, then some boots to the head. Jarrett sent off the ropes into a sleeper right out of Jarrett's playbook. Jarrett backs him into the corner and breaks the hold, but Raven slaps the sleeper back on. Jarrett drops to the mat and starts to fade. Jarrett fights back up and escapes with a jawbreaker, then they both fuck up a cutter. Both eventually get back up, Jarrett has control with rights and a clothesline. Raven sent off the ropes into a dropkick, then one for Julio knocking him off the apron. Laree runs in to try a tilt-a-whirl only to be planted on the mat. Raven Effect countered with an enziguri for a near fall.
Jarrett sent off the ropes, catches Raven on a dropkick, catapults him into the corner into a sunset flip for two. Raven sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and nails a superkick for two. Jarrett launched off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, hits the Stroke for a near fall. Raven counters an Irish whip to hit the Raven Effect for a near fall. Jarrett sent of fthe ropes avoids a back drop, but clotheslines Raven to the floor sending them both tumbling over the ropes near the table. Raven laid on the table and Jarrett goes up to the middle rope, only to be cut off by Julio. Jarrett elbows him off  to drive Raven through the table with an elbow.  Back in the ring, Raven Effect by Jarrett, covers and the Gathering (named by commentary) pull the ref out, so he ejects them finally. Jarrett is bumped into the ref as he tries to climb back into the ring, knocking him to the floor and they hit each other with a low blow.
SEX try to interfere but the Church is here immediately to cut them off. Raven calls out for his extreme revolution. New Jack with a trash can, Credible and Sandman with kendo sticks, Saturn with a DVD. Raven cuffs Jarrett behind his back. Sandman and New Jack hold up chairs for Credible and Saturn to deliver a superkick con-chair-to to Jarrett. Raven goes to swing the chair again while the others leave, the lights go out, Sabu is late for his cue and gets in the ring only after the lights come on to throw a chair at Raven. Off the chair for Poetry in Motion in the corner, then nails New Jack and Saturn with a chair as they return before flying out onto them on the floor and makes his escape. In the process he hops over the guard rail and takes out some poor woman, but he's nice enough to check on her, she seems fine.
Jarrett is still cuffed while the chair is still set up in the ring, Raven lays into him with rights and a clothesline. Raven grabs the chair again, swings, Jarrett dodges, the chair hits the ropes and bounces back into Raven's face. Jarrett falls on top for the pin but Raven kicks out. Referee gets a key from someone in the back to free Jarrett, then Raven takes the key to do it himself for some reason. Raven Effect connects and Jarrett still kicks out. Jarrett counters another attempt into the Stroke to retain. (17:34) Same old Jarrett formula. Match was actually pretty good until the heaps of bullshit started happening.

Fans are throwing trash into the ring. Dusty comes out to shake his hand and raise his arm as she show ends.
