Recap of last week:
- Sabin earned an X Division Title shot
- Truth and Konnan have an alliance of some kind
- someone attacked Lollipop and they had a catfight
- Watts gave Dusty back Flair's NWA Title
- Kash suspended Trinity and lost the X-Division Title to Red with help from the mystery luchador, who laid out Red anyways
- Jarrett retains the NWA Title over Rsven after a ton of bullshit and Sabu made his return against Raven and the extremists
Announced for tonight:
- a new #1 contender for the NWA Title to be determined
- Lynn and Red defend the tag titles
West and Tenay are in the ring to talk about that contender's match, called Anarchy in the Asylum. Two men start and every 90 seconds another person enters. No disqualifications, no countouts, eliminations occur by being thrown over the top rope or being pinned, and falls count anywhere. When it gets to the last two they have to settle in the ring and win by pin or submission. Tenay says 11 slots have been filled, and throughout the show there'll be three qualifying matches to add another four to the match:
- Styles & D'Lo vs Skipper & Low Ki
- Sandman vs New Jack vs Sabu
- Storm vs Harris
He also announces that Jarrett will be on commentary, apparently he injured his knee and hip in his title defense last week .
Anarchy in the Asylum Qualifying Match: Low Ki & Elix Skipper vs AJ Styles & D'Lo Brown
Low Ki and Brown start the match with an exchange, Low Ki running into a body block after delivering a gut kick. Scoop slam and an elbow drop by Brown, then Ki fights back. AJ tags himself in as Brown counters an Irish whip and AJ lands a springboard dropkick for one. Ki sent off the ropes into a back drop, then AJ off the ropes with a knee drop for two. Ki off the ropes again into a clothesline, then counters an Irish whip to deliver a cartwheel kick.
European uppercut by Ki before he tags in Eliox, coming in with an elbow and some rights, followed by a scoop slam. AJ catches him with a headscissor from the mat, then a spin kick and a spinning neckbreaker for two. Front slam by AJ, then Brown tags in, whips AJ off the ropes who tilt-a-whirls off Brown into a splash on Elix. Ki back in nd Brown keeps control. Ki with a springboard kick after an accidental ref bump, then Skipper is back in with a kick to the gut. Somersault dropkick on Brown in the corner, then Elix sent off the ropes and caught with a suplex. D'Lo connects with a flapjack.
D'Lo makes the hot tag, clothesline to Ki and a leg lariat to Skipper, then a backbreaker and a gutbuster on Ki. Dropkick and a front slam to Skipper gets two. Brown in again for a double chop, then gets tossed out to the floor. Brown sent into the guard rail. AJ back in the ring suplexes Ki in from the apron. Brown goes face first off the steps, AJ tries to springboard but gets caught by Elix allowing Ki to kick him in the face. Ki covers AJ for two. AJ taken to the corner for a double team face wash, then a running boot from Ki for two. Skipper back in, tries for the Play of the Day but AJ counters with a sitout powerbomb.
Brown gets the hot tag, sends Ki off the ropes into an elbow, then a spinebuster, followed by a dropkick for Ki. AJ takes down Skipper and sets D'Lo for a double leg drop. D'Lo with a Cactus Clothesline to Skipper, and Ki with a cartwheel kick on AJ. AJ sent to the corner, Ki tries the cartwheel kick, D'Lo runs into intercept, Sky High/neckbreaker combo gets the win. (9:07) Great opener.
Goldy is in the SEX locker room to interview Disco. He's in the Anarchy match and says this could be the biggest night of his 11 year career. He brushes her off to address the others to say that "there is no I in team" goes out the window tonight, he has a chance to bring home the gold and bring the power back to the locker room. He says they've been the show: Triple X reinvented the tag team business; no one on the planet will mess with the Harrises; Desire hasn't shown the world what she can do yet; and he needs Young and Siaki to be on his side tonight, he needs the SEX machine behind him. He says he was proud of Sanders last week taking down Awesome and calls him a giant killer and needs him to take care of all the giants in the ring. He says he's going through 15 people and doesn't care if he goes through them too. He says "fuck" and "shit" somewhere in this tirade as he leaves to beat up Jarrett.
Tenay and West talk about the other qualifying matches, we learn the three-way will be falls count anywhere. They get interrupted as Disco comes out just to walk to the back and he barges into Jarrett's locker room, he's on crutches and actually proceeds to beat the crap out of him, breaking both crutches over his back. They take it outside and Jarrett gets thrown into a table, then gets a chair across the back multiple times. Finally security take him away.
Falls Count Anywhere Anarchy in the Asylum Qualifying Match: New Jack vs Sandman vs Sabu
Pre-Match: New Jack gets a mic and says the communication between the three of them and Raven has broken down, then tells a story about how they were in a hotel running around with naked midgets getting drunk, doing pills and doing things they should've been jailed for. He says Sabu forgot those days, and how Heyman bounced cheques, and "that cocksucker" hasn't made good on that money yet either. He also mentions how they never got paid for their action figures, and I swear he uses a gay slur twice here but it's hard to figure out what he's saying, and I think he mentions sheep fucking? He says this is about to be worse than anything in ECW. I have no words...
Sandman is still in the crowd from his entrance when the match starts, leaving Jack and Sabu in the ring to fight. Commentary tell us Raven isn't here, apparently his contract expired last week, as Sabu is launched off the ropes into a scoop slam. Sabu fights back with rights and boots in the corner. Sandman finally gets to ringside, Sabu is jamming something into Jack's forehead, no idea what. Jack escapes to the floor and Sandman finally enters the ring with a kendo stick, Sabu grabs a trash can that Jack had brought with him, Sandman swings and misses and takes the can to the head. We go to picture-in-picture and for some reason Disco is beating the crap out of Jarrett again. Sabu covers for two in the ring.
Jack gets a can to the head now and Sabu sets up Sandman in the tree of woe, with a trash lid in his face. Sandman throws the can at the lid and Sandman's face. Jack gets Sabu in the head with a staple gun he'd hidden somewhere, then jams a fork into his head repeatedly. Sabu jabs him in the throat while Sandman pulls out a table, sets it up at ringside after throwing a chair in the ring. Sabu throws it at Jack's head and knocks Sandman to the floor. Jack is laid on the table, Sabu sets up the chair in the ring for a springboard but Sandman nails him with a kendo stick before he can fly.
Kendo stick to the head of Sabu before he's tossed to the floor, we see Jarrett helped into a car presumably to take him to the hospital. All three make their way into the crowd. Sabu tries to fight them off two on one but he's outnumbered, Jack pulls out a table and Sandman lays Sabu on it. There's a scissorlift nearby and Jack gets into it, raising it as high as it can go, and misses an elbow through the table. Sabu covers for the win. (6:17) Eh.
Goldy is backstage, with I think the mystery woman from last week and... I wanna say Bill Behrens? She wants put in "that match" tonight, he's not impressed by her. She threatens sexual harassment and wants in the Anarchy Match. Then she tries to make the case for Trinity and Desire, and even suggests Goldy. She's kinda confused but then she's like yeah, maybe she should be in it. She flirts with him and suggests Goldy should be more like that. What am I watching?
Video package of the issues AMW have been having with each other lately, relating to SEX.
Goldy is with AMW, she says no one thought they would see this match. Storm says he's one of those people, he says there's been lots of sleepless nights and speculation. He says there's been mistrust for the last month and says they'll find out what side Harris is on. Harris says he's going to prove to Storm and the people what side he's on, the side of AMW. He says they need to look at the big picture tonight, the NWA Title, they're putting the tag titles and AMW aside, as well as friendship. He says Storm will always be his friend no matter what, but it's all business in the ring. They shake hands and part ways.
Anarchy in the Asylum Qualifying Match: James Storm vs Chris Harris
Some quick exchanges to start the match, the last ending with Harris getting back dropped out to the floor. Harris returns to the ring, they shove each other, another quick exchange and Harris is thrown over the ropes, skins the cat, only to be clotheslined back out to the floor. We learn that Trinity, Desire, and somehow I didn't recognize the mystery woman is Tracy (I assume Brooks) will also have a qualifying match now for later. Another shoving match, then an exchange of blows, Harris takes control with a Thesz Press and more blows to the head. Storm sent to the corner, avoids a clothesline, Harris catches a superkick but eats an enziguri. Storm goes up top but gets cut off by Harris, who delivers a superplex, eventually drapes an arm over for two.
Harris mounts with some rights, then it's his turn to go up top and drop an elbow for two. Storm escapes a Catatonic attempt, then Harris avoids the 8-Second Ride, they each miss a clothesline and Harris eats a superkick, but it only gets two. Storm sent to the corner, Harris misses a splash, Storm goes to the middle rope and tries an inverted tornado DDT, but Harris counters with a cutter for a near fall. Swinging DDT from Harris, then he goes back up top but misses the elbow this time. 8-Second Ride connects but Harris kicks out again. Back kick from Storm, then misses a kick, Harris with a double leg to catapult Storm into the corner, Storm manages to catch himself, launches off the middle rope into a spear from Harris for another near fall. Another exchange of blows, Harris tries a sunset flip, but Storm drops down to get the win. (7:36) Took a bit to kinda get their footing and get some chemistry but that was fantastic.
Storm offers a hand but now Harris is the one to walk out on him this week. Harris eventually returns to the ring and they do shake hands and hug.
Goldy is backstage with Watts who for some reason is still putting on this act about Jarrett, at least I think it's an act? He's upset about what happened to Jarrett. He claims Jarrett sent him to the mall to find him clothing that didn't make him look like a high-tech redneck. Watts' phone rings, they've mentioned a few times tonight how the Board of Directors were trying to find an authority figure, and this is just a set up to vaguely tease that Eric Bischoff is interested in that job. At least I think it's Bischoff, there's never a last name mentioned, just "Eric from WCW". He asks for a moment of silence for Jeff and then leaves. Seriously what the fuck are these backstage segments?
So we're supposed to get the three-way women's match, but Kash comes out with a pair of handcuffs, one end of them around his wrist. He talks about her suspension and thought she might take that time to get the silly thought out of her head of being a wrestler, and concentrate on him. He makes two blowjob jokes while he's going on, one when the crowd get a "you suck" chant going. He gives her two choices: either Kash beats her down in front of the "millions" of his fans, then cuffing her to him and dragging her to the back "like the bitch she is," or she gets on her knees and apologize to him and his fans, take his hand, walk to the back with him peacefully, and do what's important by fulfilling her contract.
She chooses the first choice, so he slaps her and proceeds to throw her around, and eventually cuffs her, ragdolling her some more to the back, eventually security coming out to try and help, he keeps throwing her down on the ramp.
Anarchy in the Asylum Qualifying Match: Tracy vs Desire (w/ Sonny Siaki & David Young)
So Desire gets Trinity with an enziguri that knocks her to the floor, then tries a dropkick through the ropes, but Tracy's out of position and it looks awkward. Tracy sent into the guard rail, then Desire launches off the steps with a clothesline. Tracy dropped throat first on the guard rail before they return to the ring, Desire covers for two. Chops by Desire, then Tracy gets sent across the ring, Tracy gets her feet up and comes out with a clothesline. Tracy avoids a clothesline and hits a spear for two. Tracy goes up top, sort of hits a meteora, covers and Siaki gets on the apron. Young is on the apron on the other side to argue with Tracy, Desire takes forever to do her spot where she grabs Tracy, David comes in, accidentally decks Desire with a right, Tracy covers for thw win. (2:33)
Siaki doesn't seem to care about Desire but David carries her back to the SEX locker room.
Recap of how we got to the NWA Tag Title match tonight, thank god because they mentioned Red and Lynn were defending against Daniels in a handicap match which made no sense. Hell even with the package it makes no sense, but Lynn beat Daniels and that's what they agreed on.
Goldy is with the champs, she compares it to a teacher and student situation and asks what Red's learned. He says he's learned what respect is, he says he got screwed by the SATs, I don't know what that's about, but says Lynn showed him what teamwork and dedication is about. Lynn is flattered to know the young boys can learn something from an old man. He says Red still has to learn about integrity and honesty, bringing up how Truth cost him the contendership match against Red a few weeks back. He says the old him wouldn't have been bothered but this a new Jerry, and he's not putting up with it. He says they're gonna do it again, it's just business and another lesson to learn.
NWA World Tag Team Championships: Christopher Daniels vs Jerry Lynn & Amazing Red (c) (NWA X Division Champion)
Red is about to start but Daniels wants Lynn, who obliges and start with a shoving match against the ropes and corners. Daniels with a cheap shot after the break, then Lynn turns it around to deliver rights and boots. Lynn sent across the ring, gets the boots up, misses a clothesline, sent off the ropes into an inverted atomic drop, then runs into a clothesline. Red and Lynn ping pong with rights followed by a back drop for two.
Daniels sent to the corner for a clothesline, then back across for a dropkick, setting him a handstand elbow to the balls, Daniels retreating to the floor. Daniels tries to come in with a chair but Lynn gets him with a leg drop through the ropes. Red tags in with a Doomsday Leg Lariat for two. Skipper and Ki are here to distract, allowing Daniels to use the chair on his knee.
Daniels hits a flapjack into a half-crab on the bad knee, Lynn eventually breaks it up. Daniels with a nasty looking dragon screw gets two. Daniels misses the BME, then Red hits the Code Red but can't capitalize. Lynn gets the hot tag with a clothesline and a dropkick, followed by a spear and mounted rights. Lynn sent off the ropes and hits a tornado DDT for two. Daniels avoids a suplex, tries the Angels Wings, but Lynn counters with a TKO.
Lynn covers, Ki gets on the apron for a distraction but gets dropped by Lynn, so does Skipper. Lynn calls for the piledriver but Daniels escapes and sends Lynn into the ref before throwing Lynn to the mat. Red comes off the top with a spinning STO, then goes up top but gets thrown to the floor by Ki. Skipper tries to hit Lynn with a chair but he avoids it, sending Skipper to the floor with a dropkick. Daniels hits a Flatliner on Lynn, then sets him up for something with Ki, Lynn grabs the chair and nails Daniels in the head. Ki misses a flying nothing and also eats a chair to the head. Skipper gets the chair to the back. Lynn nails Daniels again but by this point the ref's up so that's a DQ, which means we actually have new champions. (6:30) That was a fun match, but Lynn swung that chair when the referee was on his feet right next to him, and he's somehow surprised he got DQ'd? Why are we making him look like a dumbass.
NWA World Heavyweight Championship Contender's 16-Person Anarchy in the Asylum Match
Starting the match is Brian Lawler and D'Lo Brown, Lawler gets a cheap shot in as Brown enters the ring. Brown sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, then sends Lawler off the ropes into a dropkick. Lawler sent off the ropes into an elbow, then some mounted rights in the corner, until Lawler nails a pair of low blows. Sitout powerbomb by Lawler connects out of the corner. Lawler goes up top and misses the Hip Hop Drop.
Next out is Sonny Siaki. D'Lo hits something off-camera, then covers and Siaki breaks it up. Brown sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and eats some rights. Lawler makes the save and nails another low blow, then gets sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline and hits a double one. D'Lo mounts with rights on Siaki, then Lawler nails a fourth low blow for the save. Brown sent off the ropes into a double clothesline this time.
#4 as Siaki mounts with rights is James Storm who goes after Lawler, then Siaki, both whipped into the corner and Siaki gets a clothesline. David Young comes out, not in the match and hits Storm with a spinebuster. Harris comes out to even it up with a splash on Young in the corner. He tries to do the same to Siaki but he pulls Storm in the way, and Young knocks Harris to the floor. Siaki tosses Storm over the ropes and he's out. D'Lo is getting double teamed again, Siaki with a snap suplex and floatover for two.
#5 is Kid Kash and it turns into a triple team on D'Lo, Kash sent off the ropes but gets D'Lo with a headscissor. They go to eliminate Brown, then Lawler nails his 5th low blow. D'Lo gets Lawler with a clothesline into the corner but gets cut off again. Kash sent to the corner, gets D'Lo with a boot, goes off the middle rope with a crossbody. Everyone piles on top for two, then Siaki tries again, then Kash for two. Lawler now goes after Siaki in the corner. Lawler nails a 6th low blow on Kash.
#6 is Rick Steiner for some reason. Rights and clotheslines all around, then an exploder suplex on Kash. Siaki and D'Lo lay into him, then Rick is sent off the ropes, avoids a clothesline and slams him down, before clotheslining Siaki out over the ropes. Steiner goes after Lawler and D'Lo hits a stalling suplex on Kash.
#7 is Mike Awesome who brings a table with him and sets it up at ringside. He goes after Kash, sends him off the ropes into a clothesline, then he goes after Steine, they trade blows. Awesome sent to the corner for body blows, then a snapmare and an elbow drop, cover and Kash breaks it up for some reason. Kash and Awesome double team Steiner until D'lo goes after him and he gets another low blow from Kash this time.
#8 is Justin Credible as Steiner hits a German on Awesome, Credible has a kendo stick. Awesome Bomb on Kash aimed for the outside is saved with a kendo stick shot from Credible. D'Lo is delivering rights to Credible in the corner and Steiner gets Kash with a clothesline coming off the ropes. Credible fights out of the corner. Awesome tosses Credible to the floor through the ropes so he's still in. Credible sent into the guard rail while Steiner delivers a back drop to Lawler. Awesome takes Credible into the crowd.
#9 is Ron Killings as Steiner hits a clothesline on Kash, D'Lo covers and Truth breaks it as he comes in. Truth and D'Lo duke it out, then we see Justin has control on Awesome, then back to the ring where Truth nails an ax kick on D'Lo. Big boot from Steiner on Truth. D'Lo with a clothesline on Truth, and Lawler biels Kash across the ring. Awesome throws a trash bin at Credible. Lawler nails D'Lo with another low blow. Why is there so many low blows? Awesome nails Credible in the head with a chair, then the back. German on Truth by Steiner. Credible counters an Awesome Bomb with a bck drop on the concrete for two.
#10 is Tracy, who's immediately grabbed by Lollipop and they do the catfight spot on the ramp. Kash pulls Lollipop off then attacks Tracy, throwing her into the ring. Kash tries to get everone after Tracy, but Steiner slams him into the corner upside down, Truth covers, referees have no idea what they're doing apparently no one goes to count the pin. I didn't even mention all the referees are on the floor, no one actually in the ring to actually count pints.
#11 is Perry Saturn and Kash hits his piledriver on Tracy to eliminate her, which begs the question of why bother? Saturn goes after Steiner, then Awesome. Now the mystery luchador is here and he throws Kash out to eliminate him. Everyone is teaming up on Credible and D'Lo while Saturn chokes Steiner.
#12 is Glen Gilberti, as D'Lo scoop slams Truth, then goes up top, and then the camera just focuses on Glen who comes out with the Harrises. Harrises hit a double big boot and toss Steiner out for an elimination, then Truth. Lawler gets cornered and double teamed too.
#13 is Konnan. D'Lo nails Saturn with a kendo stick. Konnan with the rolling thunder clothesline on Glen, then the Harrises until Glen gets him from behind, taking him to the floor. Steiner for some reason is still here, no idea what he's doing. Glen sent into the guard rail and now into the crowd, but the Harrises follow. Harrises try a double chokeslam through a table but they can't get him up so they really just put him down gently. Second time works and Glen covers for the elimination.
#14 is Buff Bagwell because sure why not? Clotheslines to Credible and Lawler, then some neckbreakers and a clothesline to Awesome. Truth is thrown into the doors to the outside by the twins, Buff hits a blockbuster on Truth. Saturn takes Buff to the corner, Awesome with a scoop slam on Credible. Buff sent to the corner and back drops Lawler out for an elimination. Glen with a stunner on Buff then clotheslines him out to the floor. Awesome off the top with a splash on Credible, covers and D'Lo for some reason saves it.
#15 is AJ Styles. Awesome Bomb on Credible is cut off by Sanders, he throws Awesome over the ropes, but he lands on the apron, only to be sent through the earlier table with a superkick, so Awesome's out. Sanders with a superkick on Credible, then Saturn with one to Sanders. D'lo ducks a clothesline and hits a sidewinder on Credible. Truth apparently got eliminated off-camera? Credible superkicks D'Lo.
#16 to finish out is Sabu who immediately eliminates Credible, then goes after Glen. AJ.goes for a springboard dropkick on Saturn but he moves and D'Lo eats it, and in the process gets sent over the ropes to the floor, so he's out. Down to the last four, AJ, Saturn, Sabu and Glen. Saturn sent to the corner and Sabu springboards into a tornado DDT off the rebound. Sabu takes himself and Saturn over the ropes with a headscissor. No wait Sabu's still in it? Presumably he fucked up and Tenay claims he's safe because he initiated it, that's not how it works.
Sabu is thrown through the ropes to the floor and AJ tackles Glen out with him. Glen sent into and over the guard rail. Glen face first off the rail. AJ and Sabu fight now, Sabu has control, nails AJ with a chair in the head. Glen is back and tosses Sabu to ringside. Sabu returns to the ring with a chair, sets it up next to the ropes, AJ and Glen are on the other side of the guard rail, hits his double springboard but I think completely misses them? Camera work is shit. Also Glen's busted open for some reason. Glen and AJ return to the ring. AJ sent off the ropes and hits a hurricanrna, then mounts with rights and lefts. AJ sent off the ropes, rolls up for two. Clothesline by AJ, then goes for the Styles Clash but Glen counters and dumps AJ over the ropes to the floor.
Final two, so now it's pin or submission in the ring to win. Sabu nails Glen in the head with a spike, digging it in, then covers for two. Glen sent to the corner, Sabu sets up the chair to fly into Glen but Glen pulls the ref in the way. Sabu throws the chair in his face, does the springboard moonsault. Raven appears and nails Sabu in the head. Raven Effect connects, Glen rolls over on top for the win. (28:14) Fuck me, this match wasn't totally bad but the referees were out of place 99% of the time, Buff and Steiner were made to look stronger than most of the active roster, and fucking Disco Inferno is #1 contender for the World Title, what the fuck are we doing here? Also just realized Truth WAS eliminated, I don't know why commentary was confused, I mean he was shown on camera getting thrown out by the Twins.
SEX come out to help Glen to his feet, Harrises get him on their shoulders, and that's how this show ends.
