NWA-TNA PPV #36 (March 12, 2003)

Recap of the event last week, with Russo supposedly taking himself off TV, Jarrett's confusion, and the rambling promo from Eric Watts to explain why he laid Jarret out the week before. That's of Styles and Raven going after the NWA Title, Raven winning his Clockwork Orange House of Fun, and David Flair taking out his dad's NWA Title from his burlap sack.

We immediately go to Jarrett with bat in hand storming right to the SEX locker room, trying to break the door down but security pull him away before he can get in. Jarrett comes by commentary and yell something that's not picked up on the mics, but apparently he wants Watts out there.

Halloween & Damien (w/ Konnan) vs David Young & Jerry Lynn
Pre-Match: Apparently these two are, at the time, the EMLL Trios Champions along with Psychosis, collectively known as La Familia de Tijuana.
Knonnan's guys attack from behind to start the match, taking control as David is sent chest first into the corner twice, then he ducks a double clothesline to hit one of his own. Damian sent off the ropes into a spinebuster for two. David sent off the ropes, kicked in the back by Halloween fromm the apron and knocked down by Damian, who knocks Lynn from the apron. David sent off the ropes into a back elbow, then a spinebuster and a baseball slide to the head gets two. Halloween tags in, David sent to the corner for a clothesline, then Poetry in Motion, before David is crotched into the ring post. Chops by Halloween before he's caught with some, then avoids a back drop and caught with a belly to belly.
Lynn and Damian tag in, Lynn with some clotheslines, then sent off the ropes, popped up, connects with a hurricanrana for two. Halloween misses a clothesline and gets slid under the ropes to the floor, David follows with a crossbody. Damian sent to the corner, set on the top rope and hit with a Muscle Buster for two. Konnan runs out to dropkick to David's knee. Damian and Halloween with clotheslines in the corner. Big Swing and a leg drop on Lynn as David's helped to the back for two. Lynn sent off the ropes into a back elbow. Lynn counters some sort of wheelbarrow double team with a rollup for the win. (4:27) It was... OK. Konnan's guys were either too slow or just sloppy, didn't really gel well.

Konnan's pissed. Again. Lynn returns to the ring just to be attacked from behind and hit with a rolling thunder clothesline. Konnan's guys try to pull him off as he viciously attacks Lynn.

Goldy tries to get a word with Erik Watts as he arrives but Jarrett immediately blindsides him with a bat, and security immediately comes in to separate them. Erik gets the bat.

Speaking of, Watts makes his way out. He says he didn't come to fight, but has gotten into Jarrett's head. Jarrett's out again with another bat and security rush out immediately to keep them apart

Back to Goldy now with Kid Kash and Trinity. He says he's going to keep knocking challengers down one by one, and he's going to give his fans something special tonight. Amazing Red appears and says he's only champion because of Trinity, and suggest he leave her in the back. Kash just kind of blows him off.

We get a strange video package. Therre's war footage, talking about someone being held back by a dictator and that the handcuffs are off. And it's... D-Lo Brown? That was fucking bizarre. You may recall that just before this, he was aligned with Teddy Long, just before Rodney Mack and Jazz joined him. Apparently there's a stipulation in his contract that he'll get an NWA Title shot at some point. People have been asking him what he'll say when he has a live mic on live TV  about WWE, what secrets will he tell, who will he shoot on, but because of the warm reaction he got, he doesn't care about all that,
He talks about going up and down the roads, going 150% every time he's in the ring, and in return, they told him they don't think he can get the job done, or that he's a team player, or just good enough. He says he was the hottest up-and-coming superstar three years ago and all of a sudden, he disappears without reason. He was told he can't cut a promo the right way, so they sent him to the minor league system and teach the young guys how to do it. He says he was tired of banging his head against the glass ceiling, of the politics, of people putting themselves in front of others because they can, and not being on a level playing field. He says he was promised a level playing field in TNA, there'd be no politics, just a bunch of guys busting their asses for the love of the business. He promises that he'll being nothing short of a bonafide superstar in TNA
Here's Siaki now to introduce himself and recruit D-Lo to S.E.X., saying it's the only way he'll become a superstar. He knows about his past relationship with Russo and that Vince would want this. D-Lo says they don't know each other, and his past with Russo is none of Siaki's business. He says he's not here to be part of a group or a clique, he left that in his other job, he's here to be on his own, so declines the offer. Siaki brings up the Teddy Long/racism angle, and is about to insult him only to be dropped by D-Lo and hit with the Sky High, followed by a Lo Down.

NWA X Division Championship: Kid Kash (c) (w/ Trinity) vs Jonny Storm vs Amazing Red
Pre-Match: No idea why Jonny is getting a title shot in his first match. All we're told is he's from Essex, England, only been in the business for four years at this point and 23 years old.
Kash shoves Red in the face to start, then Red and Johnny try to double team. We get an exchange of slams between all three that ends in all three delivering dropkicks in the middle. Red flips off Kash, then Kash drops them both with shots, Red sent off the ropes, rolls over and hits a dropkick. Snap inverted suplex by Jonny on Red and a clothesline by Kash to Storm Storm sent off the ropes, through the legs, connects with an enziguri. Red tries a monkey flip on Storm but gets caught and put on the top rope, then Storm hurricanrana's him onto the shoulders of Kash who plants Red with a powerbomb. Jonny breaks up a rollup with a dropkick from the middle rope.
Kash counters an Irish whip from Storm to hit a fisherman's neckbreaker and Red breaks the pin. Red sent off the ropes, ducks a clothesline, hits the Code Red but only gets two, then a cartwheel kick connects on Kash. Storm sets Red on the top rope, Red gets him with a Flatliner from the middle rope, Kash breaks the pin. Red back on the middle rope and Storm takes him down with a poisonrana from the middle rope. Kash and Storm trade chops until Kash drops him with a right, then Storm sent off the ropes, dropped by Red who connects with the 718, then dropkicked by Kash. Kash to the apron with coast to coast somersault dropkick on Storm who's sat against the ropes, covers but Red saves it.
Red and Kash trade shots, Red sent off the ropes and take each other out with crossbodies. Now all three trade shots from the knees, superkick by Red on Storm, then up top. Storm gets Red and Kash gets Storm with stereo Germans from the corner. Basement dropkick from Kash to Storm, who's sent off the ropes, popped up and dropkicks Kash. Storm sent off the roeps, wheelbarrow into a DDT almost botched. Red cuts Storm off as he triies to fly as Kash retreats to the floor, and Red dives out onto Kash. Trinity off the top with a moonsault on Red who's out of positiona nd I think gets kicked in the head. Storm flattens Trinity coming off the top with a swanton.
Kash takes Storm back to the ring. Kash to the middle rope with a moonsault for two. Kash sent to the corner, pops Storm to the middle rope, who leaps out with a headscissor for two. Kash sent to the corner, popped up again, triies another headscissor, shoved off, missed a superkick. Kash with the double-underhook piledriver gets the win. (9:37) A few steps up from the first match on this show.

Red and Trinity get into a shoving match until Kash whips Red into the guard rail. Trinity talks some shit heading to the back.

Goldy is in the SEX locker room, catching up with Siaki after he was laid out by D'Lo. She wonders where his backup was considering SEX used to be a family. Siaki wonders the same thing, then Glen and Sanders walk in. Siaki shoves Sanders, who drops Siaki with a right and they get separated. Glen starts to question Triple X's commitment to SEX when they keep going to Japan. Daniels says they're promoting SEX all over the world. Glen tells the Twins to bring their A-Game for their match tonight against whoever they're up against. Glen says management doesn't think any of them are worth shit on their own, but says they can run TNA as a group, so they need to stop embarrassing themselves. One of the Twins tells everyone to take it up with them if there's a problem with what Glen says.

Harris Brothers vs The Sandman & Steve Corino
Pre-Match: I have zero hope for this match. Corino's gonna have to do most of the leg work, and even he can't make up for the other three.
Sandman leaves Corino to fight the Twins on his own as he takes forever to do his entrance, Corino sent off the ropes hits a double clothesline. Corino with a stunner on one of them, then a DDT on the other. Corino sent off the ropes into an H Bomb to get the win and Sandman is still in the crowd taking his sweet ass time. (0:31)

Twins attack Sandman as he finally rejoins them, but he wails on them with the kendo stick briefly. Sandman gets tossed over the guard rail to continue the beatdown in the crowd, Sandmanis thrown into a dancer's cage, then gets a chair to the head. Corino is back with the save, Sandman with a trash can ot the head of one of them repeatedly. Sandman is hit in the head with some kind of box, then it's broken over Corino's head. Sandman with another can shot, Corino has a piece broken over his head. Sandman has a chainlink gate hit over his head. One Twin is thrown into a trash can. Corino whipped into the side of the stands then gets a trash can to the head. Sandman thrown upside down into the chain link. Corino gets anopther box broken over his head and Corino's been bused open while another box is broken over his head. Sandman wails on them with a kendo stick until he's hit with a trash can, then gets hit with a box. Security finally breaks this shit up.

Goldy is back in the SEX locker room with Sanders. He says that he only has an A-game. He  has an unnamed opponent tonight and is convinced it's an enhancement talent to make him look like a million bucks. He reminds us how he's beaten Truth and AMW but he's interrupted by Glen. Glen implies he's a clown and says he's actually done something in the business unlike Sanders, and being Nash's friend means nothing. Actually he points out if Sanders really was friends with Nash he'd be in WWE with him. Glen tells him he better beat whoever his opponent is or he can forget coming back to the locker room.
Holly Wood is about to follow Sanders out but she's stopped by Glen, who reminds her that her role is to put the X in SEX, and all she brings is tits and ass. She has one chance to show her assets tonight or she's done.

Dusty comes out next. He says there's a frikas going on. He was asked by Jerry Jarrett to speak on the new NWA generation, sons of famous daddies, and calls out Flair, Lawler and Watts. Lawler and Flair come out sans Watts, Flair with the NWA Title his dad held. Dusty talks about what Watts mentioned last week, and it's not Jarrett's fault they achieved nothing. He starts with David and the title he's holding, a title he himself wore, that Dory Funk, Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat and his own dad wore, and he doesn't deserve to even carry it. Dusty also called Ric an asshole the other day, and like father like son, David's become an asshole.
Then to Lawler. He brings up Jerry who calls himself the King of Tennessee, but while Dusty was having dinner with the real King of Memphis, he called Dusty the king of the world, and not to blame anyone but yourself for not overachieving. He says Brian has so much talent and has seen him do unbelievable things but comes out acting like a fool now. Lawler's ready to throw down. Dusty says he does things others don't do, says he might be a king one day and that he is that good, and has a ton of charisma.. Dusty clarifies that Lawler can be "king of deez nuts".
Dusty hits them both with flip flop and fly, with a pair of Bionic Elbows, and it immediately backfires as he's double teamed in the corner. D'Lo comes out with a Sky High on Lawler, now Watts is here to beat down Dusty while the other two double team D'Lo. Now Jarrett's here to even the odds and the "new generation" are cleared out.

Hype package for AMW.

Goldy is back in the SEX locker room with Triple X. She says it feels like a lifetime since AMW got them in the ring. Low Ki says he doesn't do a lot of talking, but does a lot of listening, and he's just hearing a load of crap. He calls AMW dumb cowboys and says they never lost the tag titles to begin with, but AMW will be in a world of hurt. He brings up Glen's comments to them earlier and says they're the true champions, they travel all over the world showing what true champions can do. He says Goldy, Glen and the cowboys can stand close to watch where their hearts lie and what they're all about

Sanders comes out for his match. He denies that there's descension in SEX and they're as tight as ever. He's dedicating his match to his mentor Vince Russo.

Mike Sanders vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
Duggan immediately tries to use the 2x4 but Sanders bails as the ref holds him back. Lockup and a shoving match into the ropes until Sanders gets in some rights, then he's sent off the ropes into a clothesline, then another and another, and immediately rolls out of the ring. Duggan blocks some rights and hits his own to send Sanders out of the ring again. Club to the abck of Sanders, then face first off the announce table. Back in the ring, Sanders takes advantage of Duggan playing to the crowd, choking him over the middle rope.
Duggan's right back up to his feet until he's clubbed down, then Sanders gets on a rear chinlock. Duggan fights out, comes off the ropes into a knee to the gut for two, then another cover for two. More choking over the middle rope by Sanders and then a cobra clutch, using the middle rope for leverage. Duggan starts to fade but fights out with more rights, then Sanders sent off the ropes into a rights. Rights and lefts corner Sanders for some more mounted shots. Sanders turns things around with some rights, then sent across the ringm and Duggan misses a shoulder block. Sanders misses a moonsault from the middle rope and Duggan hits a running clothesline for the win. (6:00)

Glen's here now and shouts at Sanders a bit, none of it is heard. They start arguing and Duggan mocks them, then drops them both before a meeting of the minds. Chop block by Glen and now the double team ensues until referees rush out to pull them apart.

Goldy is with Styles, who's taken a seat in the stands, he's requested this interview in this location. She points out he's provoking Raven sitting where he is, and in fact he says he's taking a dump in Raven's nest. He wants Raven to bring his best game, because once he beats Raven and then Jarrett, there'll be no doubt that he's the undisputed Heavyweight Champion.  Raven interrupts things and gets a chair thrown in his face for his trouble, but the Harris Twins are here to keep them apart.

A reminder of what happened with the tag titles, and I'm glad they are because I completely forgot. A month ago, Triple X and the New Church had a Tag Title match that ended with a member of each team scoring a pinfall at the same time, and resulted in the titles being vacated. In a tournament, AMW beat the Rock and Roll Express, the Twins beat the New Church, and AMW beat the Twins to earn their title match against AMW tonight.

NWA World Tag Team Championships: America's Most Wanted vs Triple X (w/ Elix Skipper)
Triple X attack to start the match, Low Ki and Storm start as the legal men, Ki sent off the ropes and sent to the floor with a dropkick, then a clothesline. Harris sends Daniels into the guard rail, a ip toss from Storm sends Ki onto the ramp. Storm mount with rights and Daniels goes face first off the announce table. Ki with some uppercuts now. Daniels sent into the guard rail again, then Ki sent into it as well. Harris and Daniels return to the ring, Harris up top with a crossbody gets two.
Daniels sent off the ropes, catches Harris with a kick and a shoulder block, only to be caught with a clothesline coming off the ropes. Storm tags in, Daniels sent off the ropes, held up as Storm comes off the rope with a dropkick. Daniels catapulted into the corner and slung back to the middle of the ring by the legs. Cheap shot to Ki, then Daniels is thrown at Ki who ducks underneath only to be thrown into Daniels instead.
Daniels with a jawbreaker and an enziguri allows Ki to tag in. Storm taken to the corner for chops, then a double one to the back gets a one count. Snapmare and a kick to the bac gets Ki a two count. Daniels back in, Storm sent off the roeps into a throat shot, then a cheap shot to Harris goads him into the ring for a ref distraction. Double team ensues on Storm, Daniels hits a flatliner and Ki hits a dropkick to the face for two.
Storm tries to fight back, sends Ki off the ropes who avoids a dropkick and drops an elbow. Storm put over the middle rope and more goading for Harris, allowing Daniels to choke Storm over the ropes from the apron, Ki covers for two, then again for two followed by another kick to the back. Daniels back in with a side suplex for two, into a rear chinlock. Storm fights his way out, comes off the ropes right into a single-leg dropkick, Ki tags in and covers for two. Another double chop, then springboard, misses and eats a clothesline. Daniels back in to knock Harris off the apron, then Storm sent to the corner, Ki misses a splash and Daniels eats a clothesline. Daniels snet off the ropes into a Hart Attack, then they hit the Death Sentence on Daniels, but Ki pulls the ref out of the ring before the three.
Elix hits the Play ofo the Day on Storm in the ring while the ref deals with Ki and Harris on the floor, Daniels rolls over to cover but it's only two. Ki tries a cartwheel kick in the corner but is caught midleap with a spear, covers and Daniels saves it. Elix grabbed the belts from the announce table, while Daniels is caught off a springboard into a sharpshooter. Elix enters with a chair but eats a superkick from Storm. The ref leaves the ring to deal with Storm who goes after him, Ki is back up while Daniels taps. Ki saves it with a springboard but gets caught with the Catatonic. Harris covers but the ref is still busy with Elix and Storm.
Daniels tries to use a belt but Harris catches him and nails Daniels with it instead. The ref comes in to take the belt away and Ki nails Harris with the other belt while the ref is handing the belt back to ringside. Daniels rolls over for the cover and the win. (11:56) I'm not sure what the point of vacating the titles was when you're just putting the titles back on Triple X in the first place, but OK. I was loving this match until we got the overbooked bullshit like they always do.

Goldy is outside the arena where Siaki is beating the crap out of D'Lo. Jarrett attacks Siaki now and sends him off running.

Glen and Holly Wood come out. He says Russo had a dream to take SEX out of Nashville, because they're too good for the fans of Nashville. He tells the home viewers to look at the audience and gets some cheap heat with Nashville. He says Russo's dream was specifically to take SEX to Hollywood, CA where they can perform in front of a live studio audience. He says they know what the people want, and they're going to give it. He says they know the people want tits and ass, so Holly Wood is issuing an open challenge to anyone who wants a piece of ass, show her ass, and get in the ring with her, and maybe end up on the casting couch. The crowd wants Athena but Glen blows her off and calls her cheap.
Then turns his attention to Lollipop, who's one of the cage dancers, and the crowd seems to be behind it, so she comes down to the ring. Holly Wood takes her down and the usual catfight spot ensues. Lollipop has a wardrobe malfunction because her chest gets blurred out, and I guess Lollipop wins...? Then Holly Wood just rips off her top entirely and Borash rushes in to cover her up. Glen and Holly Wood leave. What the fuck? ðŸ˜‚

Over to commentary to hype Raven vs Styles up next. OK really it's Don West with his sales pitch. Tenay has invited Jarrett to join them on commentary.

NWA World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contender's Match: Raven vs AJ Styles
Butting heads and a pair of shoves until Raven tackles and mounts with rights. Styles counters an Irish whip and goes for the Clash immediately, but Raven avoids and slides out only to eat a dropkick through the ropes. Styles sent into toward the guard  rail, leaps onto it, only to get his legs cut out and crotched onto the rail. Styles face first off the steps before they return to the ring, kick to the ribs of Styles, then he's sent off the ropes, gets a kick on Raven only to be sent to the floor with a drop toe hold.
Raven has words for Jarrett before sending Styles off the steps again, then nails Styles in the head with a chair while the ref tries to keep Jarrett away. Styles is busted open before taking it back to the ring. Styles sent chest first to the corner and nailed with a clothesline, then a running knee lift. Styles sent to the corner, gets a boot up but eats a boot to the face. Raven goes up top to drive Styles face into the mat with a knee for two.

Styles lured and pulled face first into the middle buckle, then counters an Irish whip to hit a DDT and a cover, but Raven grabs the ropes and retreats to the floor. Styles tries a crossbody but Raven catches him with a gutbuster instead.
Raven with a headbutt to Jarrett, now Jarrett attacks Raven, then Styles. Security try to get control of Jarrett but he grabs a chair and pushes security away. Security take the chair away and Jarrett finally leaves. Back in the ring, AJ tries a missile dropkick on Raven but he nails the ref instead. Evenflow DDT connects, a second referee immediately runs in to count but it's a near fall. Styles sent to the corner and caught with a forearm, then sent across the ring, AJ dodges another forearm but pulls the second ref into Raven's attack at the same time. Styles Clash connects, first ref comes to and counts but it's only twoo.
Raven grabs the chair Jarrett had, nails Styles at the same time Styles connects with an enziguri, both put an arm over each other, both referees count them both down for a double pin. (10:03) Another good match ruined by overbooking, and why are we doing another double pin finish?

And the show ends with confusion.
